Free Computer and Job Skills Training Online

Job seekers in Pike County are now able to use the latest version of a popular online resource to assist with job searching and learning computer software skills.
Learning Express Library's Job & Career Accelerator, the popular online resource provided by the State Library of Ohio and available through Garnet A. Wilson Public Library, was recently upgraded to version 2.0. The Job & Career Accelerator is a comprehensive job search system to help job seekers find employment. It is an all-in-one application and available free to all Ohio residents. Patrons of Garnet A. Wilson Public Library can access the Job & Career Accelerator at the library or from any internet-enabled computer by visiting http://pikecountylibrary.org and clicking the link for "Learning Express."
The newest version of this innovative online resource provides job seekers everything they need to help find their next job. Users can easily explore detailed information on over 1,000 different occupations; search over five million up-to-the-minute local and national job postings; and create professional resumes using its integrated tools to assist job seekers in writing effective resumes. They can create letters, master interviewing and networking techniques, and even upgrade current skills or learn how to use popular work-related software applications--through the fully integrated interactive computer skills training.
The interactive self-paced multimedia computer skills tutorials include a wide array of today's most popular applications such as Microsoft Office Access (2003, 2007), Excel (2003, 2007, 2008-for Macs, 2010), PowerPoint (2003, 2007, 2008-for Macs), Outlook (2003, 2007, 2010), and Word (2003, 2007, 2008-for Macs, 2010). Design tools such as Adobe Design Suite (CS3), Microsoft Sharepoint (2007), Visio (2003, 2007), and Project (2007) are also accessible. In addition, instruction in Operating Systems Window 7, XP, Vista, and Mac OSX are available. No matter the individual learner's current level of knowledge, the tutorials offer self-paced instruction at basic, intermediate, and advanced levels.
The State Library of Ohio awarded a federal Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS) LSTA grant to Libraries Connect Ohio to purchase a core set of information databases for all Ohions that includes the LearningExpress Library with Job & Career Accelerator. Library services like the Job & Career Accelerator provide personalized, guided asssistance for job seekers at all experience and education levels while providing expert advice and tips throughout the process. The result is as if each individual Garnet A. Wilson Public Library patron receives customized job search, as well as computer training, assistance.
The latest version has an improved job application tracking system to help job seekers to plan, tailor, and track multiple job searches, and offers integration with Google Docs, Google Calendar, and Gmail. The staff at Garnet A. Wilson Public Library is confident that with Job & Career Accelerator job seekers in Pike County will ever resource necessary to find their next employment opportunity.

Legislator for a Day Essay Contest
Entries should be limited to students who reside in the district that are in grades 5th-8th. The winners and their families will be invited to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus on a to-be-determined date for a VIP tour of the Ohio Statehouse and lunch with Representative Rosenberger.

Book Sale - Friday, April 15th and Saturday April 16th

The book sale will be held on Friday, April 15th and Saturday, April 16th, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, in the Community Meeting Room of the Waverly Library, located at 207 North Market Street. Items to be sold include adult, young adult, juvenile, children's fiction and nonfiction books, as well as videos, magazines, and other other items. Come check it out and support your local library!
Computer Sale - Monday, April 4th and Tuesday, April 5th



Sale is by sealed bid.
Items that will be for sale include used computer systems, components, printers, and several oak chairs. Additionally, a video tape inspector/cleaner and video conferencing system will be for sale.
Bids will be opened Wednesday, April 6th. Successful bidders will be notified that day. Arrangements can then be made to pay for and pick up the computers, which must be paid for in full and picked up no later than Thursday, April 7th.
Bidders can bid on as many different systems or as many times on the same system as they wish. All computers are sold "As Is". The library will not provide support for sold computers.
