The library held another successful Read for the Gold 5K Run / 3K Walk Fundraiser Event. The 1st Place Overall award male and female went to Hunter Hoover and Amanda Stickel, with a time of 20:03 and 20:19 respectively. The 2nd Place Overall award male and female went to Rocky Mitchell, with a time of 21:54 and Maddie McAllister, with a time of 22:02.
The 1st Place finisher of the 3K Walk was Vanessa Mitchell. Pam Daniels took 2nd Place.

Update Ohio Voting Address Online
As of August 9th, registered voters in Ohio are now able to use a new online service that for the first time allows them to update their voting address online. This new tool, accessible at MyOhioVote.com, is a convenient way for voters to meet their primary responsibility: to be registered at their current address 30 days before an election. Every Ohioan who is old enough to vote will be able to take advantage of this new system.

Come and meet Darlene Gage, a representative for the Ohio Historical Society. She is visiting Waverly to speak with local residents about our state's rich history.
Darlene is a trained first person historical interpreter and will present a short living history presentation on Mary Ann Bickerdyke, who was born in Ohio and became friends with General Grant during the Civil War. The presentation will take place at 3:00 pm at the library.
The Ohio Historical Society is excited to bring to you a way to connect to Ohio history through her visit and presentation. Event is open to the public.

5K Fundraiser Race - Sat., Aug. 18
The Friends of the Pike County Public Libraries is sponsoring the annual Read for the GOLD fundraiser race, which will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012. The 5K Run and 3K Walk will be held rain or shine in Bristol Village, beginning at the Activity Center, located at 625 5th Street, Waverly. Registration and check-in begin at 7:30 am, with the race beginning promptly at 8:30 am. The registration fee is $10 if registered on or before August 11th, $15 if registered after August 11th. Participants will receive a t-shirt commemorating the event.
Race registration sheets maybe be picked up at the Waverly, Piketon, Beaver, and Western library branches and at the Bristol Village Activity Center. You may also download a form by clicking here. You can also register the day of the race.
Everyone is encouraged to participate by entering, or by coming down and cheering on those who will be competing!
The course is flat and shady through beautiful Bristol Village. Participants compete on a combination asphalt and concrete course.
The mission of the library is "Educate. Inspire. Enjoy." This race is a fun way to raise funds to continue our endeavor of promoting literacy within our community. You can help support our library by registering for our race!

Summer Reading 2012
This year's Summer Reading Program at the Pike County Public Libraries is sure to stimulate the imagination! The Friends of the Pike County Public Libraries have again partnered with local recreational attractions to offer rewards to all participating readers. All branches of the Garnet A. Wilson Public Library of Pike County will hold Summer Reading Programs for children, teens, and adults.
This year's children's theme is "Dream Big, Read!" (for children in pre-school through 8th grade). The teen theme is "Own the Night" (for young adults ages 13 to 17). The adult theme is "Between the Covers" (for ages 18 and older).
The Summer Reading Program will run eight weeks, beginning Monday, June 4th and ending Saturday, July 28th. Thanks to the event's gracious sponsors, readers who complete the program will receive free passes to the Pike County YMCA, the Pike County Swim Club, and Long's Retreat Family Resort! Stop by and sign up today!
